This crab cake recipe is a great appetizer to serve before the main course, or some may enjoy making it a meal all on its own!

Crab cakes, as the name implies, are little cakes or patties that are formed out of crab meat and other ingredients, much like making hamburgers. They are a great dish to make and relatively simple. There are a wide variety of different recipes available out there, as some people like to add in peppers, onions, or other ingredients. They can be baked, broiled, grilled, or fried depending on your individual preferences on how you like them prepared and your level of comfort and cooking skills.

If you are serving these for a large party, you may want to make these in smaller shapes. The recipe will not be any different other than the size that you choose to make them – though you may want to watch on cooking time since there is that possibility they may cook a little more faster since they are a little bit more smaller.

You Will Need:

1 pound crab meat
1 teaspoon ground mustard seed
1 tablespoon mayonnaise
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 egg, lightly beaten
3/4 cup breadcrumbs
1 teaspoon parsley

Optional: Celery, Pepper, or Onion (some people like these things, others don’t – so if you like them, go ahead and add them in. If you don’t want them – that’s okay too!)

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well so that they are all dispersed evenly amongst the mixture. You will then want to use your hands and carefully shape the mixture into crabby patties/cake form. You can either fry or bake these delicious treats, so depending on what type you prefer, the directions are below:

Pan Frying Directions: Heat about 2 tablespoons of oil in a large skillet. Form the crab cakes into patties and fry 2-3 minutes each side, or until a golden brown color.

Baking Instructions: Heat Oven to 350 degrees. Place patties on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment paper. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the patties are golden brown.

This dish can be served either hot or cold, though typically it is served hot. You can serve with a dipping sauce or they also taste excellent plain. If serving mini crab cakes on a platter or tray, you may want to garnish with fresh lemon wedges and parsley for a nice decorative touch.
